KUCHING, June 18: Several roads in Kuching city centre will be temporarily closed on June 20 from 8am to 12pm and on June 21 from 8am to 6pm to facilitate the Gawai Dayak parade rehearsal and the main event, respectively.
The Gawai Dayak parade will take place this Saturday (June 21), beginning at the Tun Jugah Building and proceeding towards the Square Tower at the Kuching Waterfront, passing through Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Main Bazaar.
In a statement today, Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu urged the public not to park their vehicles along the road shoulders along the affected routes to ensure the smooth running of the event.

Roads affected by the closures include: Jalan Gambier-Jalan Power, Jalan Old Court House/Jalan Khoon Hun Yeang, Jalan Carpenter, Jalan Wawasan/Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Padungan/Jalan Bukit Mata, Jalan Abell traffic lights/Jalan Petanak, Sri Aman roundabout as well as junctions into Jalan Abell and Jalan Padungan.
Public parkings are available at the old museum, Medan Pelita, India Street, Plaza Merdeka, along Jalan Wawasan, St Thomas Anglican Church, Top Spot, Jalan Song Thian Cheok, Song Kheng Hai Recreational Ground, HSBC Bank, and Jalan Petanak.
The police are advising motorists to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid traffic congestion in the city centre during these periods.
